Police name pedestrian killed in Whiteparish crash

A PEDESTRIAN who died following a collision with a car on the A36 in Whiteparish has been named.

Gerald Harding, 86, was crossing the road near Brickworth Corner at about 5pm when he was hit by a Volkswagen travelling towards Salisbury.

Mr Harding, from the Salisbury area, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene. The 72-year-old male driver, also from the Salisbury area, was unhurt in the accident.

PC David Cooper of the Serious Collision Investigation Team said: “A number of motorists gave assistance to Mr Harding and police would like to thank them for their attempts to save his life and for providing information to investigating officers.”

The A36 was closed for five hours. Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call 101.
