THE Lions Club of Salisbury has donated funds to a number of local charities following a successful Family Fun Day in Durrington last year.

President Tricia Snook presented cheques of £25 each to Riding for the Disabled Wilton Branch; Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Families Association; and Canine Partners, at the club’s general meeting at the New Inn, Salisbury, on Wednesday.

Funds were also donated to the Salisbury Women’s Refuge and the ABC Pre-school in Durrington. The funds were raised at a the fun day and car boot sale in Durrington at the end of the summer last year.

The club has also presented the Tuesday Club of Amesbury, part of the Wiltshire Blind Association, with a PA system. The Lions Club of Salisbury is looking for new members and it is also planning to set up a branch club for Amesbury.

Membership chairman Ken Staniforth said: “Salisbury and Amesbury are unique places, and joined by the dozens of villages and hamlets, have a great diversity of people. We would really like to hear from those people, whatever age or background, to be considered for membership of the largest charitable service organisation in the world.”
