New homes plan unveiled in Mere
11:33am Wednesday 20th February 2013 in Headlines By Hannah White
PLANS for 138 new homes at the Hill Brush Company site in Mere have been unveiled.
Hill Brush Company is working with developer CG Fry as part of plans to relocate the factory from its current site, which borders Shaftesbury Road and Woodlands Road.
The sale of the homes would fund the move to a site at Dead Maid Quarry, along the B3092 between Mere and Zeals.
The brush company, which has been at its current site since it was established by the Coward family in 1922, is looking to move to a larger, purpose built factory closer to the A303.
CG Fry, which built the new Walnut Tree Inn and housing estate on the opposite side of Shaftesbury Road, unveiled plans for the new housing estate at the Grove Buildings in Mere on Tuesday.
The new factory would also house a brush museum and a cafe, creating five new jobs, and eight posts would transfer from the New Milton Moulding Factory.
Hill Brush said the move would benefit the local economy by bringing a further 40 jobs to the area in the future and that the move is necessary to secure the long-term future of the company.
CG Fry and Hill Brush will put in a joint planning application later this year. The relocation of the factory would take place during 2014, with work beginning on housing in early 2015.
