A WHEELCHAIR user whose wheel snapped in a rut in Castle Street has been told it could take three months before his claim is processed.

Mick Jennings was on the pavement outside Tesco on Saturday when his front right wheel went straight into the hole next to a drain cover.

The 38-year-old, who shattered his kneecap in an accident a few years ago and also suffers from a displaced spinal cord, said he will probably have to get both front wheels replaced. He said: “It’s a joke.

“I’m on benefits and it’s a big chunk out of my weekly money. Each wheel costs £32.”

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said they would be contacting Mr Jennings, of Barnard Street, to see if they could offer him a wheelchair through Shopmobility until his own was fixed.

She said: “All claims are assessed individually and as quickly as possible on the return of the completed claim form.”

It's only £64, the paperwork and staff effort that will be required to settle this is unjustified! Common sense should prevail.
