Christmas market to be extended
THE Salisbury Christmas Market is set to run for 24 days this year – six days longer than last year.
Organisers said the event, which was held in the city for the first time last year and attracted 94,000 visitors, is being extended after positive feedback from visitors, pubs, shops and cafes.
The market, which was rated in the Telegraph’s list of top ten UK Christmas markets, will run from November 28 to December 21.
Organiser Stephanie Swann said: “My colleagues and I are delighted the Christmas market was such a success for Salisbury last year, but we are not resting on our laurels and are busy trying to create something even nicer and more exciting for the city this year.”
Inquiries and applications from former and potential new exhibitors have been flooding in and the charity chalet is already almost full. Many choirs and musical groups have also expressed an interest in returning to perform once again, and plans are underway for a bigger opening night.
In addition to making the city a more popular shopping destination at Christmas, the market is also aimed at being a community event bringing together all kinds of businesses, organisations and community groups from around the city.
Ms Swann said: “It is wonderful that we are getting so many exhibitor inquiries for chalets because it means word is obviously spreading that it is a first class event. “But we are also eager to involve more small businesses and local crafts people so exhibitors can do seven, ten, 14, 17 or 24 days and they can also opt to have a smaller chalet.”
Any individuals, small businesses, charities, churches, schools or organisations wishing to be involved in the market can contact Salisbury City Centre Management on 07436 266560 or email@example.com.
The deadline for exhibitor applications is next Thursday, March 28.
