HUNDREDS of people took a night time stroll around Salisbury at the weekend in the fifth annual Salisbury Hospice and Journal Midnight Walk.

About 400 walkers from Salisbury and further afield took part in the walk to show their support for the hospice and to raise money for the work it does with patients and their families.

Hospice spokesman Celia Scott said: “We were really pleased with how it went. We had more than 100 more walkers than last year and I think they really enjoyed it, especially the view as they walked past the cathedral, which was all lit up.

“We were lucky that the weather, which was forecast to be atrocious earlier in the week turned out to be lovely on the day.”

Salisbury Hospice Charity needs to raise more than £1.5million a year to keep going, and the hospice helps up to 1,000 people a year.

As well as residential services, it also provides support and advice to people in their own homes and includes their families and friends in everything it does.

Those taking part in the Midnight Walk often do so because their families have benefitted from the care provided by staff and volunteers at the hospice.

Chief executive Sara Morley said: “Whatever your reasons for supporting Salisbury Hospice Charity, we thank you for your help, because no matter how little you give, every single penny counts.”

The money raised at the event is still being totted up but organisers hope to beat last year’s total of £40,000.
