£769 raised for Macmillan
4:00pm Sunday 18th August 2013 in Headlines
VERWOOD’S stalwart fundraiser Pam Smith raised £769 at Morrisons in a marathon 18-hour weekend of collecting.
The teaching assistant from Verwood First School has raised thousands of pounds over the years for Macmillan Cancer Support, taking on challenges and running stalls at local events.
This time she was armed only with a collecting tin.
She said: “It was so wonderful to hear so many people tell me their personal stories about the brilliant care that they or their family members had received from Macmillan and so many others who just felt safe knowing that they were there if they needed them. I felt very humbled by the love and enthusiasm that they had for Macmillan, a charity that will always be close to my heart.
“I have had a busy summer with events at carnivals and most recently a large barbecue in my garden, where a raffle raised another £90 for Macmillan. Now I am looking forward to my next event, a tea party in my garden.”
Mrs Smith is taking part in a hiking event along The Great Wall of China for the charity next spring. She is happy to talk to groups about her treks and fundraising. Call 01202 822198 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
