Young dancers make talent show’s top 12
6:00pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in Headlines
YOUNG dancers from Ringwood and Verwood have reached the final 12 of a TV talent show – and will be competing again tomorrow for a chance in next Friday’s grand final.
Too Much, a group of five nine and ten-year-olds from Ringwood’s Shake Dance, were originally selected from more than 100 groups to appear on CBBC talent show Alesha Dixon’s Street Dance Stars.
On Monday they performed live on the CBBC Channel to successfully qualify for tomorrow's heats, which will be shown at 9am.
The group, which includes Verwood’s Theo McKenzie-Hayton and Ringwood’s Tanesha Bannerman Williams, only formed last year and the CBBC show is the group’s first major competition.
Originally set up in 2003 by Rachel King, Shake Dance has attracted dancers from across the south coast and last year Rachel was invited to work with Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity.
Ms King said: “It is fantastic for the group to have such an audience to perform to and it is especially great because we are celebrating our tenth anniversary this year.”
The CBBC talent show is just the beginning of a big year for Too Much as they will be travelling to Denmark to represent England in the World Street Dance Championships.
Ms King added: “It is going to be a quite remarkable year for Too Much and they have much to look forward to after competing on the show.”
Too Much will be joined by Shake’s over 16s group, who will also be competing in Denmark after securing a top three place to qualify.
Shake has seen many of its dancers performing in the country’s most prestigious venues including Wembley and the 02 Arena.
Too Much will be performing on Alesha Dixon’s Street Dance Stars at 9am and 4.30pm today on the CBBC freeview channel.
Monday’s performance is available to watch online at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
