CHILDREN’S characters are proving to be the stars of the show at this year’s Bisterne scarecrow festival.
Entries such as The Gruffalo, Goldilocks and the Owl and the Pussycat are attracting walkers and motorists from miles around.
With 24 scarecrows lining the streets of the village, there is something for all the family ranging from Doctor Who to the cycling-themed Tour-deux-France.
Secretary Sylvie Edgell said: “This year’s festival has seen some of our best entries ever and we’re delighted to see so many people stopping and looking at these creations.
“The money raised from the festival goes towards the upkeep of the village hall so it’s a really important event for us.”
First place in the group category went to Scarecrow Summer Fete designed by Elizabeth Cook, which was also the overall champion, while The Gruffalo won the singles.
St George and the Dragon won the doubles for a second consecutive year.
All proceeds from the sale of the Bisterne Scarecrow Festival trail leaflets, which are available from Aivly, Littlebanks Nursery and the Texaco Garage, will go towards the Bisterne Village Hall.
