City council set to go over budget
SALISBURY City Council has gone £50,000 over its budget in this financial year.
The council’s policy and resources committee heard on Monday that the projected overspend of £54,466 is down to ongoing work on the Market Place and reduced income from the city’s crematorium.
The ongoing work to refurbish the Market Place means the council is receiving less income from the Charter Market than it had budgeted for because traders were being offered fee discounts to compensate for the disruption.
A refurbishment programme at the crematorium had to be delayed after English Heritage listed the building, meaning it had to take place during generally busier months.
