New website supports sustainable travel
A WEBSITE dedicated to helping people travel across Wiltshire using sustainable transport has been launched this month.
The Connecting Wiltshire website will help people plan journeys and find out more about all forms of transport available in their area.
To coincide with the launch Wiltshire Council will be running a travel information roadshow in Salisbury on September 21.
Connecting Wiltshire travel advisers will be providing personalised travel advice and information to schools, businesses and residents across the county with the aim of assessing individuals’ travel needs and advising them on their best routes.
Wiltshire Council successfully bid for £4.5m last year from the government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) to improve transport services and information in Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for transport John Thomson said: “This website will help people use various modes of transport to get from one community to another. Whether they are cyclists, car drivers or train commuters, this website will give them the information they need to plan every step of their journey.
“We live in a rural county and helping people explore the area using more ecologically friendly transport is very important.”
The website will be available later this month connectingwiltshire.co.uk.
