Money from sale of green space will be used for recreation improvements
SALISBURY City Council has agreed to sell an area of green space that is needed by an energy company, but plans to use the money raised to enhance recreational facilities in the area.
Councillors were reluctant to give up the piece of land of Western Way in Bemerton Heath but accepted that Scottish & Southern Energy needed the 580sqm to build a new electrical switch house next to the existing electrical sub-station.
Cllr Mike Osment said: “I feel uncomfortable about giving up recreational land for any development, but we’re in a no win situation. We have to rely on the technical advice we’ve been given.”
Councillors said any money they get for the land should be put back into the Bemerton Heath for recreational purposes, such as enhancing the skate park.
