Learning to live off the land
FORAGING for berries, creating crafts and making mouth watering meals were just some of the activities children at Hyde Primary School enjoyed as part of their eco week.
Experts in apples, felt making, cooking and foraging held scores of workshops at the school, which saw children picking wild food before making chutneys, cordials and nettle soup.
Headteacher Julie Dalziell said: “We have been running a project on sustainability throughout the school and have been teaching the children about the provenance of food and how to collect and buy food from close to home.
“The children have had a fantastic week, with many of them going home to collect and cook the foods that they had created in class.
“The staff enjoyed the week just as much as the children.”
