Ashmolean visit for Leehurst pupils
ART and design students from Leehurst Swan visited Oxford to explore the Ashmolean Museum and Pitt Rivers collection.
They explored themes of power and authority in Egyptian art, wealth and privilege in Renaissance portrait-painting and aspects of the British class system in the work of Walter Sickert.
The Pitt Rivers collection offered pupils the chance to explore non-Western modes of identity.
From the tattoos of Polynesi and the scarification of Angolan tribes, to the masks of gods and spirits from Africa, the Pitt Rivers gave pupils insight into multi-cultural views of beauty and representation.
