Double celebrations at Newton Tony School
THERE were double celebrations for children at Newton Tony Primary School last week when a new classroom was officially opened on the day of their harvest festival.
The classroom was built during the holidays and then decorated by a team of parents ready for autumn term.
The classroom was funded partly through a buy-a-brick initiative organised by the school and by a donation from the Friends of Newton Tony School (FONTS).
The building has been named in memory of Lady Iveagh, who was a strong supporter of the school, and it was officially opened by her son Rory Guinness and his wife Mira.
Children, staff and guests enjoyed a harvest festival at St Andrew’s Church before lunch at the village hall.
In the afternoon, the Bishop of Ramsbury Edward Condry blessed the new classroom and answered questions from pupils.
Headteacher Gay Clark said: “We decided to combine the opening with our harvest festival as we felt it was one of God’s gifts that we had been able to achieve.”
