Community grants available
COMMUNITY groups with good ideas on how to promote healthy living in their area can apply for up to £4,000 to help support their projects.
Wiltshire Council is funding the grants to help local communities begin or develop projects and activities which will engage and support people in living a healthier lifestyle. The council is working in partnership with The Community Foundation for Wiltshire and Swindon, which will administer the funds.
A wide range of groups can apply for a grant including those dedicated to helping adults and children adopt healthier lifestyles, combating isolation, supporting the elderly, promoting community green spaces for exercise and groups working to reduce drug and alcohol abuse.
Keith Humphries, the council’s cabinet member for public health and protection, said: “Wiltshire’s health statistics are thankfully well above the national average for many indicators but we are determined to help those in need and a good way to do this is by supporting the groups actually working in the heart of their communities."
The closing date for the first round is in December and applications are invited now. Those applying must be a local organisation with a local management structure.
The activity they deliver must take place in Wiltshire and they must not hold more than 12 months’ running costs as free reserves. However those who are not a registered charity may still be eligible. Call 01380 729284 for more information.
