A VINTAGE bus day will mark the end of 70 years of bus operations at Salisbury bus station next month as well as raising money for the Stars Appeal.

Salisbury Reds will finish running the handful of services that use the station on January 4, and the following day families will be able to travel on a selection of old vehicles on four special routes passing the city’s park and ride sites and heading to the bus station.

All funds raised will go to Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal. Souvenir programmes will also be on sale to boost the fundraising total and Andrew Wickham, managing director of Go South West which owns Salisbury Reds, has pledged to double the final total.

At least ten vintage and historic buses are expected from across the country and operations manager Andrew Sherrington said it will be a fitting and fun way to mark the era of the bus station.

He said: “Through the decades the whole bus industry has changed, affected by many factors. We hope on January 5 we will be able to give people the chance to glimpse into the past as we focus on securing the future of bus travel in Wiltshire.”
