A MEETING to consider how public rights of way in the Mere, Tisbury and Wilton areas can be improved is taking place next month.

A recent area board consultation on priorities resulted in local people saying they wanted to see improved footpaths and promotion of walking in south west Wiltshire.

The meeting will hear how the project will work and Wiltshire Council’s Rights of Way team will provide training on how to carry out audits of public rights of way.

Those participating will be given a couple of months to carry out local audits after the event, and return the information to the area board. The information will be used to inform the council’s future footpath maintenance programme, link in with the footpath clearing and improvement work being done by Seeds 4 Success, identify works that could be taken on by local volunteers, and provide evidence for the area board to consider funding a capital improvement programme.

The event, hosted by South West Wiltshire Area Board, is at Dinton Village Hall on January 16 from 4pm to 5pm or 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
