A MUCH-MISSED Salisbury watering hole has been re-opened.

The Anchor and Hope in Winchester Street closed in October after the previous landlords failed to reach an agreement over a new lease with owners Enterprise Inns.

The closure came as a blow to many regulars, who organised a show of support for the popular venue, which they described as one of the few drinkers’ pubs left in Salisbury.

On Saturday businessman Ash Patel and his daughter Anoushka re-opened the Anchor and Hope much to the delight of customers.

The pub has been refurbished but will continue to concentrate on serving drinks rather than food, while offering a friendly welcome and traditional feel.

“We have had terrific support from the regulars who are very happy the pub is open again,” said Mr Patel who also runs the Porton Hotel and has owned businesses in Salisbury for the last 37 years.

“There are not many pubs like this in Salisbury and people are pleased it is back in business. We have made a few changes, and want to cater for everyone, but the feel of the pub is the same.”

Mr Patel has introduced a cocktail menu, a pool team has been set up and he plans to show live sports matches and introduce bar snacks in the future.
