A STUDENT from Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury was named runner-up in the Young Economist of the Year contest for 2013.
Sixth form student Tom Rutter was commended for his essay entitled Must Quantitative Easing End in Inflation? The judges in the competition, run by the Royal Economic Society (RES), felt Tom's essay distinguished itself through the clear structure of its argument and its use of an example drawn from the world of video games.
There were 1,164 student essays were entered in the annual contest, and Tom received his RES prize from its president, Charlie Bean, at the society’s annual public lecture held at the Royal Institution in London on November 28.
