A DEDICATED young glider pilot has been honoured by the Royal Air Force Cadets.

Stuart Strachan of 1010 (Salisbury) Squadron has been chosen as Flight Staff Cadet of the Year by Squadron Leader Steve Goddard, the officer commanding 622 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, which operates from Upavon.

Mr Strachan, 18, is a glider pilot who assists with flight operations and the training of junior cadets. The award is made each year to a cadet who has demonstrated exceptional levels of dedication and determination in their role as a Flight Staff Cadet, assisting with the running of the training unit.

Sqn Ldr Goddard said Mr Strachan was a great asset to the organisation. He said: “Stuart maintained consistently high standards and attendance and a continued high level of personal development towards Graded Pilot status.”

622 Volunteer Glider Squadron offers gliding opportunities to air cadets from across the south west of England.
