Number of serious injuries to cyclists falls
AN average of two pedestrians in Wiltshire are injured each year in collisions with cyclists, council figures show.
A report to Wiltshire Council says information from the Department for Transport indicates the fault for such accidents is “distributed approximately evenly between cyclists and pedestrians”.
The report says 76 per cent of collisions involving cyclists in Wiltshire are in urban areas.
In 2011, cyclists accounted for eight per cent of all road casualties in Wiltshire, including three deaths and 10 serious injuries. The overall number of cyclist casualties rose between 2010 and 2011 but the number of serious injuries or deaths fell.
