PEOPLE in Salisbury went purple for Lucy’s Days Out and raised thousands of pounds.
Twenty-eight schools, businesses and organisations, including the Journal, organised a purple day and held cake sales and coffee mornings to raise money for the local charity set up in memory of Lucy Page.
Lucy, whose favourite colour was purple, died aged 12 in September 2010 after a six-year fight against a brain tumour and January 24 should have been her 16th birthday.
Her mother Julie wanted people to do something to mark the occasion and was delighted with the response from the local community. “It was wonderful to see such a huge amount of purple around Salisbury. Lucy would be really delighted that so many people remembered her on her 16th birthday. A massive thank you to everyone involved in marking this occasion and helping to raise vital funds for the charity.”
A special purple-themed Bluez ‘n’ Zuz disco at the Chapel Nightclub was held in aid of the charity on January 23, with a donation of £1 per ticket, and 145 youngsters attended.
So far about £3,000 has been raised with more money still expected to come in.
