TALENTED young artists can show off their skills in an uplifting art competition.

The Salisbury Practice, an independent team of specialist psychologists and therapists, have launched the Train Your Brain Through Art competition for young people aged between nine and 18 to design a compassionate image that could make someone feel cared about.

Research suggests that using your artistic side to create and imagine something compassionate can ‘switch-on’ the parts of the brain responsible for helping you feel calm and soothed, making it a key technique for coping with life’s ups and downs.

The team wants young people to use any medium to create a piece of art work that best illustrates someone or something which is wise, caring and non-judgmental. The artwork will form a permanent display at their specialist psychology offices in New Street.

The winner will get £100 towards art materials and £100 awarded to their chosen school or charity.
