TWO Salisbury cheerleading squads are celebrating after scooping trophies at a national competition.

Phoenix Stars and Sarum Stars scooped a range of prizes at the British Cheerleading Association Western Classic in Exeter earlier this month.

Phoenix Stars scooped five trophies. Immy and Tara Bray came first in the mini duo tumbling, Elly Humphries, Abi Townsend and Lauren Humphries came second in the senior trio tumbling and Sophie Woodroffe and Jess Scott came third in the youth duo tumbling.

The junior group, Shooting Stars, were third in the Youth Level 1 and the senior Superstars, which is Year 7 and up, were fourth in Senior Level 1.

Head coach Elly Humphries said: “I am so proud of everyone for their hard work and dedication to the team.”

Sarum Stars had their most successful competition yet. They picked up first place for their tiny tumbling duo, fourth for youth stunt and two thirds for mini cheer level 1 and mini tumbling duo. They missed out on a fourth place trophy for youth tumbling duo by half a point.

Head coach Emily King said: “The cheerleaders, aged between four and 12, have all worked really hard this season and we could not be more proud of them.”

The group is currently recruiting for both its recreational and competitive squads and has a free six-week cheerleading course starting in April for those from school Year 6 up to the age of 18.
