YOUNG people have been getting a taste of life in the fire service.
Eleven jobseekers have been working with Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service in Salisbury, Wilton and Warminster for the past three weeks in order to learn new skills and boost their self-confidence.
The Salamander course was originally designed as a youth engagement programme to steer young people away from antisocial behaviour.
The new collaboration with Job Centre Plus has the same focus, but it is also hoped that those doing the course will see their motivation to find work increased.
Salamander is intended as a stepping stone to future success and employment, while also educating the young people on their own safety and the safety of others.
And on Friday the young people showed off what they have learned in a display of firefighting and rescue skills at Salisbury Fire Station in Ashley Road.
Salamander co-ordinator Dawn Whiting said: “We know that our programme is successful in giving a positive steer to young people who need to develop core life skills. “
