GARDENERS and scarecrow fans are being called upon to show off their skills in Salisbury City Council’s annual spring competitions.

The council is inviting residents to enter the City Gardens & Scarecrow competition, which is open to individuals, schools, pubs, hotels and bed and breakfast providers – anyone with a garden.

Parks assistance Polly Mason said: “This year we have revamped the competitions and this means that gardens can be awarded bronze, silver or gold awards in line with the Royal Horticultural Societies judging system.

"Salisbury’s gardens are all very different from each other and this new judging system means that gardeners are not competing against other larger or smaller gardens – just against themselves.”

The closing date for both gardens and scarecrows is June 27 and judging will take place during the week commencing July 21, although schools will be judged before the end of the term.

Entry forms can be found at salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk, or call 01722 342860 or email info@salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk.
