Salisbury Journal: Vicar writes hymn book Vicar writes hymn book

A NEW hymn book was launched at Sarum College last week.

Bishop Timothy Dudley-Smith has written 30 new hymn texts, based on the Psalms, and music editor William Llewellyn added tunes, some of which are well known and others specially written for the book.

A Mirror to the Soul is published by the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) and the launch event on Thursday was held jointly with Sarum College Bookshop.

Bishop Dudley-Smith, who moved to the Salisbury area in 1992 after his retirement, has written more than 300 hymn texts, was awarded an OBE in 2003 and became a Fellow of the RSCM in 2011.

He spoke about his new collection and the audience joined in with great enthusiasm singing some of the hymns.
