A RINGWOOD Sixth form student has enlisted the help of community organisations and businesses as she plans for the trip of a lifetime in the summer.

Charlotte Heaps, 16, is one of 11 students in Year 12 at Ringwood School who will be going to Kigali, Rwanda, in June.

While there, the group will be visiting schools and finding out about how communities are still living with the effects of the genocide 20 years ago.

As well as raising the £2,000 she needs in sponsorship, she has also secured football equipment to give to children after she contacted the Steve Bernard Foundation, which was set up in memory of the popular Christchurch FC footballer, who died in a car crash in 2005.

Charlotte said: “We’re going out to help with people affected by the genocide.

“We’re going to the schools and teaching the children. We will be looking at where they live and how they live.

“We’re out there for 11 days.”

The donations included £500 from the Steve Bernard Foundation, which also gave Charlotte seven junior football kits, 20 footballs, pumps and cones.

She has also had help from the Charlie Smith Memorial Trust, Nick O’Hara Funeral Directors, Lansdowne Woodward and Wenda Engineering and Electronics.

Charlotte is studying for A-levels in photography, art and design, media studies and business studies.
