A SWIMATHON hosted by the Rotary Club of Salisbury on Saturday is expected to have raised more than £10,000 for local causes.

Twenty-five teams took part in the annual fundraiser at Godolphin School, and together they aimed to swim a ‘virtual tour’ of the Isle of Wight, a distance of 58.8 miles.

Club president Steve Marriott said: “It went really well. We were doing a ‘round the island swim’ and we exceeded that by about 2km.”

All proceeds from the event will be donated to charities including Morning Star, which supports men struggling with issues such as homelessness and substance misuse; the Life Education Centre, which supplies health and drug education to primary school children throughout Wiltshire; Parkinson's UK; and other charities supported by the Rotary Club of Salisbury.
