BIG crowds went quackers on Saturday at the Grand Damerham Duck Race and Mini Fair.

The annual event attracted so many visitors that the village hall committee ran out of yellow, plastic ducks.

Some 1,500 ducks bobbed along the river, with their eagle-eyed owners on the riverbank, cheering them on.

In first place was Roxanne Smith followed closely by Digby Shepherd.

The race was followed by a fair with people enjoying a hog roast, barbecue and Pimm’s in the sunshine.

A village hall committee spokesman said: “Our sincere thanks to all the people who came along to support our fundraising event. The weather was kind and a good time was had by all.

“We sold out of ducks but hope to have a few extras next year. The effort involved to stage the race is mammoth and we thank most sincerely all those who gave their time so generously.”
