A FORDINGBRIDGE Junior School pupil has launched her own dog treats business, making £100 in her very first trade show.

Kirsten Reed, 11, baked her first batch of biscuits after receiving a doggie baking book from her grandmother for Christmas.

Her efforts went down a treat with her seven-year-old soft-coated wheaten terrier Dexter, and soon she was supplying neighbours’ pets.

She unveiled her Dexter’s Doggie Delights range of beef, chicken, honey, banana and sweet potato biscuits, and liver cake at a teenage trade market in Salisbury, and made £100 in four hours.

Next month she will be handing half of those profits to a school in Vietnam when she visits with her parents.

Her mother Emma said: “She’s always liked trading and baking, I don’t know where she gets it from.

“But the only similar thing she’s done before is an exercise at school where they gave small groups £5 near Christmas and told them to try and double it. They melted down wax crayons and made reindeer noses.

“For the biscuits she tried the teenage market first and it went so well she’s booked to do the next one in July.

“We’ve designed packaging - paper bags with see-through fronts and labels created online, and our freezer is full of them.

“We’re off to Vietnam for three weeks soon, and she’s going to local school to donate half the profits.

“I arranged the trip independently, so we’re going to be travelling around, and the last place we’re going to is linked to a school, where they like you to go along, speak English and play football for a few hours, that sort of thing.

“Kirsten decided she wanted to donate half her money to the school after learning about it.”

Dexter’s Doggie Delights include soft and hard biscuits, ones for dogs with special dietary needs and unusual flavours.

And she already has several fans, after wowing customers at the market - one of whom came to the Journal to wax lyrical about the youngster and her products.
