A CALL has gone out for all former pupils of Bishop Wordsworth’s School to help celebrate the centenary of the Old Wordsworthians.

And an inspirational range of guest speakers, who are all former pupils, has been lined up for a black-tie dinner on Friday, July 14.

They include former England rugby player Richard Hill, newsreader Andrew Harvey and Chris Moon, who lost a lower arm and a leg when he was blown up clearing landmines in Africa and is now a motivational speaker.

The school is particularly keen to hear from leavers from the 1970s, 80s and 90s who might want to catch up with old acquaintances.

Current pupils and parents are also invited.

Canapés will be served in a marquee in the grounds before the dinner in the sports hall.

Tickets cost £70, or £100 for a couple, and are available from the school finance office on 01722 333851 ext 260, or people can post a cheque to Annabel Lloyd-Gilmour at the school.

Other centenary events planned for the weekend of Founder’s Day, Saturday July 5, include an Old Wordsworthians v 1st XV exhibition rugby match and barbecue on the Saturday, and a cricket match in memory of teacher Paul Collins on the Sunday.
