A SUPERMARKET worker from Salisbury has admitted stealing thousands of pounds from her employer.

Amy Louise White, 23, stole more than £10,792 from Waitrose while she was working in the customer returns department.

White had access to the customer returns database and she processed refunds to her own bank account by memorising the barcodes of high-value items, including televisions and sound systems.

Salisbury Magistrates Court heard on Friday that White, of Culver Street, also stole money by legitimately buying goods from the store and then giving herself refunds without returning the items.

Waitrose became suspicious about the refunds and conducted an internal investigation which revealed White had stolen thousands of pounds from the company between May last year and February this year.

White was charged with five counts of fraud by false representation and one of theft by an employee.

When interviewed by police, White accepted the charges and said she had been using the money to fund a lifestyle she couldn’t afford.

She pleaded guilty in court on Friday and the case was committed to the crown court for sentencing on June 20.
