STAFF and pupils at Wyndham Park Infants School are celebrating getting an outstanding Ofsted report.

The school, in Somerset Road, Salisbury, was previously rated ‘good’ by the education regulatory body but achieved an ‘outstanding’ mark across the four areas in its latest inspection.

Headteacher Alison Smith said: “We’re really pleased - it’s a real accolade and the result of five years’ hard work from the whole team.”

A report said pupils “achieve outstandingly well”, attainment has been consistently high and the teaching, leadership and management are all outstanding.

It said: “All pupils, including the most able, those in receipt of additional funding and those who are disabled or have special educational needs, share in the outstanding progress. Teachers are very effective in helping children in Reception and pupils in Years 1 and 2 learn to their full potential, so that they are very well prepared for moving to their next school.”

It said pupils find the lessons interesting and work very hard to do their best, behave outstandingly well and love not only the lessons but also the many clubs, trips and opportunities to do things in the local community.

Mrs Smith said: “The thing we are most pleased about is that Ofsted recognises the achievement over time - it’s not just being outstanding on two days in May, but consistently providing for all the children.

“ I think it’s down to having a team delivering really good quality lessons every day and the quality of the curriculum that we offer. Plus we’ve really raised the bar on our outdoor learning and our provision for parent is really extraordinary – the cafe and shelter we provide and the fact we blog for parents every day.

“I think the fact we are on a site with Exeter House and St Mark’s School adds a special something rather than just working in isolation.”
