THE only way is west for a team of five cyclists who are cycling from Salisbury to St Austell in Cornwall to raise money for charity.
Peter Brooker and Matthew Plume, from Salisbury, along with friends Nathan Cole, Ross Charles and Jeremy Clements, will be raising money for Cancer Research UK, The Fire Fighters Charity and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Since organising the event and buying their bikes from Hayballs in Salisbury, Mr Plume has been diagnosed with colon and liver cancer.
Mr Brooker said: “We really want to push it as much as we can, and with Matt having cancer as well, there’s even more reason.”
Mr Plume, who is currently having chemotherapy, hopes to take part in as much of the route as possible, particularly the start and the finish.
The team is called 54321 – five men, four counties, three charities, two wheels, one way west. They will be setting off from the Market Place in September with a campervan support vehicle and aim to complete the ride in four days, covering about 50 miles a day.
