BUDDING athletes at Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop Primary School had a visit from an Olympic gold medal winner.
Jason Gardner, gold medal winner in the 4x100m relay team from the 2004 Athens games, visited the school as part of the Team Super Schools sponsorship day.
He had his photograph taken with the children and signed numerous autographs as well as dishing out sage advice to the youngsters.
The children then took part in a sponsored basic fitness circuit, which included doing sit ups, press ups, leg drives and star jumps.
Money raised from the event will go towards helping develop the school’s peace garden and library as well as supporting athletes in a variety of sports from grass roots through to Olympic level.
Elm class teacher Amanda Dimarco, who organised the event, said: “Having Jason visit the school was a dream come true. He is one of the most recognised Olympians in the country after winning gold at Athens, and he inspired the children enormously. Hopefully one day we will see a Chilmark pupil achieve something similar.”
