A TEAM of RAF pilots, policemen and civilians have cycled more than 400 miles in four days.

Six pilots, six metropolitan police officers and three civilians set off from New Scotland Yard in London, averaged more than 100 miles a day, and arrived in RAF Valley in Wales four days later.

The 400in4 challenge was aiming to raise money for the Jon Egging Trust, a charity set up in memory of Flight Lieutenant Egging, who died in 2011 when his Hawk T1 aircraft came down after performing at Bournemouth Air Festival.

The trust, set up by his wife Emma, helps disadvantaged children through a youth engagement project and so far the 400in4 team have raised more than £10,000.

Organiser Dereck Burgess, from Salisbury, who was good friends with Flt Lt Egging, called on his former Metropolitan Police colleagues and friends to help him.

Day three was the longest, when the team cycled 121 miles through the Derbyshire hills. They covered 417 miles in total.
