Charlotte rubs shoulders with Angelina
A FORMER Godolphin girl rubbed shoulders with Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie at a global summit in London last week.
Charlotte Longfield, 44, who grew up in Downton but is now based in London, was acting in a thought-provoking piece called Breaking the Silence at the End Sexual Violence in Conflict summit from Tuesday to Thursday.
Longfield was part of Stage '65 when she lived in Salisbury and has been back to perform at Salisbury Playhouse in Jack and the Beanstalk in 1981, Shadowlands in 2007, The Winslow Boy and More Joys of Christmas in 2009, and Private Lives in 2010.
During the summit she met Jolie, who is a UN special envoy and has used her celebrity status to campaign against the use of rape as a weapon of war, at the summit and the pair struck up a bond while discussing the BRCA1 gene.
Jolie brought the gene, which increases women’s chances of developing breast and ovarian cancer, into the public eye last year when she talked about undergoing a double mastectomy to reduce her risk of developing the disease.
Longfield also has the genetic mutation in her family and spoke to Jolie about how it has affected her. Her sister Harriet died of cancer just two weeks’ before the summit, aged 49.
