A DUO from Rockbourne are appearing at Glastonbury this weekend after being shortlisted from 6,000 entries.

Chantelle Pike and Hannah Dean, who call themselves Eyes for Gertrude, are thought to be on the brink of major success.

This year they've made the Glasto Emerging Talent shortlist, appeared on BBC's Loose Ends with guest Jo Whiley, who wanted to play their tracks on her show - and now they'll be at Glastonbury playing two gigs on the Mandala stage.

Ms Pike said: “It's fantastic to be playing at such an iconic festival and we're looking forward to banishing those World Cup blues.

“And it chimes so well with the imminent release of our album. Can't wait.”

According to Glasto judge Tony Hardy, Eyes for Gertrude “immediately stood out for how well the voices complement each other - the first pure, strong Nashville, and the second offering English Rose delicacy - great live act.”

Ms Pike added: “We draw on our roots, even the videos for two of our three releases - Rag and Bone and our latest, Messing Around, were shot around Fordingbridge and Rockbourne.

“Locals and visitors have been trying to guess where everywhere is.”

Ms Dean said: “Once people go on our website it'll explain why they might have seen a small car trundling around Hampshire and Dorset with a large space rocket on its roof.”

Eyes For Gertrude played at 4pm yesterday on the Mandala stage and will play at 1pm today. They will also be playing at the Larmer Tree festival on July 17.
