THE New Forest Heritage Day will be held on July 23, offering a spitfire simulator, high-tech gadgets and the chance to handle historical artefacts.

The free event celebrates the history and heritage of the New Forest, with archaeologists and historians running events throughout the day, including guided walks around prehistoric burial mounds and a former Second World War prisoner of war camp.

The heritage day will be held at the Filly Inn near Brockenhurst from 10am until 5pm as part of the Council for British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology, a national festival of more than 1,000 events between July 12 and 27.
