POLICE have named a woman who was killed when a lorry crashed into her broken down car on the A303 at Mere on Sunday.

Mariola Martin, 54, from Swindon, died after her Mazda MX5 was hit by an articulated lorry travelling east.

The incident happened at just before 1pm at the A303 Mere bypass. The lorry driver, a 51-year-old man from Devon, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The A303 eastbound was close for more than eight hours while the scene was examined and the vehicles recovered.
