A DIAMOND couple from Amesbury who met at a friend’s birthday party are celebrating 60 years together today.

Yvonne and Roger Roadnight, both 83, met in 1950 and they were married at St Lawrence and All Saints Church in Eastwood, Essex, on August 21, 1954. Mr Roadnight, a dental surgeon, was born in France and Mrs Roadnight was born in Westcliff-on-Sea in Essex.

The couple lived in Essex until 1975 and then moved to Suffolk where they lived until 2006, when they moved to Amesbury to be closer to family. They have one daughter, Angela, and four grandchildren. Mrs Roadnight has always had an interest in animals and Mr Roadnight was a keen golfer who now enjoys playing bowls.

Mr and Mrs Roadnight are celebrating their milestone anniversary with a family get-together at Amesbury Abbey on Saturday. Mr Roadnight said: “It has come round very quickly. We are looking forward to our anniversary.”
