RINGWOOD Town Council is to dedicate a lantern of remembrance at The Gateway to recognise the sacrifice of the town’s people in both world wars.

The new lantern will light up on the date of each death of a Ringwood person and a list will also be displayed on the notice board at The Gateway of those that fell each day of each month of the year.

A service will be held at 3.30pm on September 3 and will be supported by The Royal British Legion chaplain Terry Roberts, Ringwood and Burley Band and a number of invited guests who will attend the service.

The Last Post will be played and on the first note of Reveille the Lantern will light.

Mayor Barbara Woodifield said: “I do hope as many people as possible will gather outside The Gateway for the service and as the months go by the significance of the lantern will be understood.”

A collection will be made at the end of the service and all are welcome.
