Local Hero Awards 2014

A FOUNDER member and “the driving force” behind Martin village shop won the Good Neighbour Award.

Janet Richards, pictured, helped set up Martin Future Farms ten years ago, a community initiative which produces and sells food on a local basis.

The not-for-profit farming co-operative promotes local produce and also operates the community shop.

Mrs Richards, who ensures the shop is properly stocked and running smoothly, has established a relationship with the local Co-op which allows the shop to sell its supplies from the supermarket at prices matching the Co-op’s own. She has also established a system of volunteers who man the shop, providing a great social and economic benefit to the village.

Unable to attend the awards ceremony at the weekend, Mrs Richards said: “I would like to thank the people who nominated me along with all the volunteers.

“It’s not just me, there are probably over 40 different people who give their time to help in the shop and Future Farms.”
