CHILDREN and young adults in and around Salisbury are to have a say in the amount they pay for bus travel in the region.

Local operator Salisbury Reds is looking at possible changes to its fare structure for younger people - and is consulting with them to “gain a clear understanding of their thoughts and views” on the plans.

“We wish to update younger person fares across our services here in Wiltshire and we’d like to know how they feel about this approach,” said Salisbury Reds communications manager, Nikki Honer.

“Nothing is definite yet because first we want to consult with those who use our services. There is an online survey - but we also plan to go into schools and ask Year 11 pupils about how they view bus travel, how often they take the bus and how much they think they should be spending on tickets.

“We are particularly interested to know people’s thoughts on a possible age range - at what point between our current child and adult structure should the new fares be introduced?

“In addition to all this, there will be an opportunity for our young customers to have a wider say on bus travel in the area, which services they value and to tell us about any further enhancements they would like to see.”
