A DOG was abandoned in a kitchen in Pembroke Road with no food or water for almost six days.

Police and RSPCA officers seized the dog at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

“We are glad to say that the dog has been taken by the RSPCA for care and to be re-homed,” said a police spokesman.

“Any animal abuse is a criminal offence and should be reported to the RSPCA.

“Please remember, an animal is for life, not just for Christmas.”

The news provoked strong reactions on Facebook.

Becky Bull posted: “Well I hope they are banned for having any animals for life.”

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “The RSPCA attended a property on Sunday afternoon, along with local police, to gain access to a house on Pembroke Road, after reports had been made of an abandoned dog in the premises.

“Permission had been given to access the premises by the tenant, who was absent from the house at the time.

“A brown Staffordshire bull terrier type dog was removed from the property by police and it was later signed over by the owner and is currently in the care of the RSPCA.

“One person has been interviewed by the RSPCA in connection with the matter and the investigation is ongoing at this time.”
