FIREFIGHTERS from Salisbury and Wilton have been striking a pose for a new calendar to boost funds for the Stars Appeal breast cancer unit campaign at Salisbury District Hospital.

The crews were approached by Dr Kate Jenkins to support the campaign, and the photographs were taken by Gemma Brunton, a local photographer who was treated for breast cancer at Salisbury District Hospital two years ago.

Chris Edge, a retained crew manager at Wilton fire station, said: “We were all a bit nervous posing for the calendar, and it’s something I never thought I’d do, but it’s for a great cause and we’re hoping it makes a lot of money for the appeal.

“Most of us know someone who’s suffered from breast cancer, so it was great to be able to get involved in raising much needed funds for our local hospital.”

All proceeds from the calendar will go to the Stars Appeal and it is hoped it will raise more than £1,000 for the cause.

Photographer Gemma added: “Whilst the treatment I received was excellent, and I was looked after with care and sensitivity by all the staff, it would have made a very daunting experience much more tolerable to have been able to undergo the tests and consultations in dedicated, private and compassionate surroundings at a time when I was feeling incredibly vulnerable.

“The new breast cancer unit will do just that, and I am so grateful to the Salisbury and Wilton firefighters who were so generous and enthusiastic in getting involved.”

Calendars cost £6 each and can be ordered by emailing salisburyfirefighterscalendar2 015@hotmail.com or calling Kate on 07943 710354.
