THE number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance over the last year has halved in the Salisbury constituency.

In November 2014 the total number of claimants was 366 – 370 less than last year.

The figures have been released today (Wednesday) by the Office of National Statistics.

The news has been welcomed by Salisbury MP John Glen, who said: “Today’s figures are great news for Salisbury and is a key indicator that the economic recovery is taking hold.

“Unemployment has now fallen by 64 per cent since 2010 and there is more good news today as average pay rises above inflation.

“I am particularly pleased to see unemployment for young people has now fallen by two thirds since the last election.

“There is more to be done but I warmly welcome today’s new figures.”
