A PENSIONER with no driving licence has just been handed the keys to her first car - at the age of 89.
Valerie Evill won Stars Appeal Christmas raffle grand prize - a brand new Kia Picanto.
But Mrs Evill has never driven before and has no plans to start now.
Instead, she has given the car to her son Rupert as a birthday present.
“I was rather shocked and very pleased,” she said.
“I thought it would be a nice present for my son, and a thank you for all the things he's doing for me.”
Mrs Evill, who suffered a stroke two years ago following the death of her husband, said that due to her advanced years, driving was “definitely off”.
Her son Rupert said he was very grateful to his mum for the generous gift.
“We were absolutely overwhelmed when we heard about it,” he said.
“It's a very nice little car and I'm very happy to have it.”
A spokesman for F J Chalke LTD, which provided the prize, said: “We were delighted to be able to offer a sleek Kia Picanto towards this fantastic cause.”
AN auction in aid of the Stars Appeal Breast Cancer Campaign will be held in Laverstock Sports Club on Saturday from 8pm. For more information call 01722 327401.
